FAIR 2011
Wonderful Experience
I am still feeling the afterglow of a wonderful experience. The organizers of the South American Bird Fair made everyone feel welcome, including those who spoke English and were given an interpreter for several workshop presentations each day. Guests were included in the social activities and multilingual conversations over delicious regional dinners every night.
Children were involved in birdwatching outings, educational art displays and musical performances. I was particularly impressed by the subtle infusion of the artistic spirit throughout the Fair, from a celebration of photography and poetry to the many displays of original of bird related crafts. The Fair was indeed a blending of learning and fun and an opportunity to make new friends.

Birding as a whole
As a prior visitor to Argentina on several occasions, of which one was ‘Woodpecker’ specific, the South American Bird Fair allowed me to see the inner-working of birders and conservationists in South America on both a personal and professional level. The Fair can also prove to be a great resource for people who wish to meet and mingle with experts in South American Guiding, Avi-Studies, Professional Photographers, and so much more. It was also a privilege to present one of the projects that BirdLife Bulgaria is working on concerning tracking and tagging the endangered Imperial Eagle in order to better understand migratory patterns and the dangers they face on a daily basis and use that information in order to help protect this vital species. This is definitely a program for those who take an interest in not only South American birding but Birding as a whole.

FAIR 2010
Amazing Piece
The South American Bird Fair or Feria de Aves was exciting. There are about 30,000 birdwatchers in Argentina, and it is quite an organized activity, with training and accreditation involved. There were also many people from the tourism industry as the organizers plan to make this an annual event.
The bird fair participants had a great respect and understanding of nature and are involved with protecting and nurturing the environment. For example, one couple, an engineer and his wife, are running an NGO, involved in land and seed conservancy and in clean energy...
The conference had about 25 sessions on all aspects of birding; evolution, photography, conservation, and birding information about Columbia, Brazil, Peru, and Chile. There were photography and painting exhibits and four early morning birding trips to the surrounding area. We met producer of The Path of the Condor, filmed in the Andes and saw this amazing piece of work.
